Is it comfortable?
The Audi A5 is a delight. The interior trim could only have been designed by a perfectionist; the use of leather, wood, rich plastic and alloys is flawless. It’s a demonstration of style that leaves competitors like the Mercedes C Class and the BMW 4 Series miles behind. You won’t lack for space in the front or the back of the Audi A5 either. This is a marvellous achievement in itself; it looks like it has a very low roof, but there’s plenty of head-, leg- and shoulder room for the four passengers. However, you may want to think twice before encouraging potential buyers to jump into the back seat of a two-door version of the Audi A5; flexibility and a chiropractor might be needed to squeeze in through the narrow opening. Of course, this chink in the armour is likely to be overlooked with the incredible boot size: fold the rear seats down and you have space enough to lie a 6ft-tall adult down flat or to comfortably transport enough Swedish furniture to fill a house.
How does it drive?
The acceleration on the Audi A5 is quite possibly the best in its class. This will of course depend on the particular engine, but there is yet to be any cause for worry in any of the ten petrol and six diesel engines that the engineers have used. Audi A5 handling is also excellent; braking is great, the tyres don’t squeal or squeak, the body roll is tightly contained and depending on the model you purchase, you’ll find the vehicle filled to the brim with safety technology that ensures a relaxed, stress-free drive.
The verdict
The popularity of the Audi A5 suffered somewhat from a high price tag. This means a used Audi A5 will suffer from scarcity; if you see one available at ADESA, you’ll want to bid! It will disappear from your dealership almost as soon as it arrives; anyone who takes it for a test drive is sure to fall in love with it.
