Audi Q5

The Audi Q5 is a compact luxury crossover SUV. It’s firmly established itself as a favourite among premium SUV buyers, performing solidly against rivals such as the BMW X3.

Is it comfortable?
The Audi Q5 focuses on being safe, composed and comfortable. It does a very good job of it too. The cabin is supremely well finished, with oodles of safety technology and hi-tech equipment; our favourite is an option that locks the doors if the vehicle senses you’ll hit cyclists or pedestrians when you climb out. You’ll easily fit four adults in the Audi Q5, but more impressively, five adults will feel comfortable even if you’re going for a long drive. It’s quite an achievement.

How does it drive?
The Audi Q5 uses light materials to lower its weight, fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. The engines are either four-cylinder or six-cylinder units, all of which are excellent. They combine well with the steering, handling and suspension to ensure a reliable, controlled ride. The view from the driver’s seat of the Audi Q5 is excellent too, making it easy to see all four corners of the car when it’s time to reverse park or perform one of those many tricky manoeuvres that so many drivers dislike. This scores the Audi Q5 plenty of points, but is it going to be enough to put it above the BMW X3?

The verdict
It’s actually going to be quite a showdown if you pit a used Audi Q5 against the equivalent used BMW X3 or any other luxury crossover. The vehicles are quite evenly matched overall, although the Audi Q5 has established an excellent reputation that may give it an edge. However, at ADESA, we would take a different approach: you might notice a few similarities between the Audi A4 and the Audi Q5 (and there are plenty). This makes a used Audi Q5 an attractive step up in luxury and size from a used Audi A4. Try marketing it this way and you’ll end up with a quick sale and a very happy customer.
