Peugeot 308 SW

The Peugeot 308 SW is available as a five- and seven-seat family station wagon. It’s marketed as a compact station wagon and handles like a compact vehicle—despite its extended wheel base—but has a voluminous interior that no other compact can possibly boast of.

Is it comfortable?
Are you looking for a spacious family car? The 308 SW is exactly that. Yes, it is inextricably linked to the regular 308, but the designers behind the 308 SW used an extended wheelbase that allows for more legroom in the back seat and to expand the boot to a massive 660 litres, or 1300 litres when the seats are folded down, by far the biggest in its class. Peugeot scored brownie points by adding plenty of tie-downs and load rails in the floor, seat-folding levers in the side of the boot and clever, underfloor storage space.

How does it drive?
A wheelbase stretch often makes vehicle handling less reactive, but Peugeot worked some magic to keep the 308 SW responsive, the suspension decent and the safety rating at five stars. There are a range of engines used in the 308 SW, all of them small for such a large car, but more than capable. The fuel consumption is reportedly low, as are the CO2 emissions.

The verdict
Unfortunately, Peugeots are not renowned for reliability. What does this mean for your used Peugeot 308 SW? Probably just that you’ll find one at a bargain price.
