The Volvo XC90 is a luxury crossover SUV. It takes practicality to new levels.
What is the Volvo XC90?
In 2003, the Volvo XC90 won the North American Car of the Year award. Jeremy Clarkson of Top Gear fame believes the Volvo XC90—he has owned three of them—must have been designed by someone with children. Why? Because it’s so practical. For example, Volvo have transversely mounted the engine to allow an extra portion of the vehicle length to be devoted to interior space. Clever!
Is it comfortable?
The seven seats in the XC90 have been spread across three rows to ensure maximum comfort. Volvo has also acknowledged that children grow into teenagers who need extra space, and the XC90 delivers it. Individual seats fold down flat to allow you to transport big loads. And with its long wheelbase, you’ll be glad to know the XC90 has park assist technology. It’s been built for comfort and practicality.
Is it safe?
There are plenty of efforts to ensure safety in the Volvo XC90; optional adaptive air suspension, 4WD, and auto-braking. Later models have a feature that detects pedestrians and cyclists and an unusual but clever innovation that means that if you do hit them, they bounce over the hood of the car rather than underneath the wheels. We don’t really know how to describe this, except to say that it shows Volvo have put thought into the vehicle. Make sure you check ADESA for your used Volvo XC90.
