"During the Corona pandemic, I started selling cars, and it soon became an important part of my business."

What do you do when the pandemic completely blocks your business activities? Ovidiu didn't have to think about this question for long. He expanded his Italian transport company and recalled his old passion for cars. Through OPENLANE, he looks for interesting cars. He sells them to dealers. An activity that has become an important part of his business.

"Transport is still my main activity," says Ovidiu. "Car sales now account for 20% of my business. I invest in cars that cannot be used on public roads. Because the papers are not in order or because there is a small defect. I sell them to dealers. They repair the cars and sell them on. Most of the vehicles go abroad, mainly to Romania. A third stay in Italy.

Thanks to this business model, Ovidiu doesn't need a showroom: "I do everything from the office: purchases, sales, paperwork... It's incredibly efficient and saves me a lot of time. I've noticed that my clients find it very easy too. That's why I think in the future, cars will be sold even more online."

Ovidiu is always on the lookout for the best deals on the internet. Every day he makes time for it. "During the day, I deal with logistics and purchasing for the transport company. In the evening, after work, I spend half an hour at the auctions. First I enter the search criteria. That means I have about a hundred cars every day. I select three or four of them. In the last minutes of the auction, I submit my bid. I base my bid on the estimated sale price. And then you have to hope for a positive result... Even though it's sometimes disappointing: OPENLANE has an enormous offer. Every day I find a few cars that exactly match my requirements. I am therefore very happy with our collaboration", concludes Ovidiu.
